St. Lucie Clerk meets with SDM4FL co-chair to discuss adult guardianship
FORT PIERCE, FLA.(Sept 1, 2021) Clerk Miller met today with Michael Lincoln-McCreight, co-chair of the SDM4FL coalition. Michael made history in 2016, becoming the first person in Florida to end his guardianship using Supported Decision-Making.
As an adult living under guardianship, Michael could not get a driver's license, exercise his right to vote, or even leave his group home without permission. Now, he lives independently and works as a state-licensed security guard, a contributing member of society who is deeply involved in his local community.
Michael is devoted to bringing awareness to Supported Decision-Making for people with disabilities, allowing them to keep their rights and make decisions with the help of people they trust. You can learn more about Michael's story and his mission at www.idecideflorida.org.
